ABIA PDP CANDIDATE WANTS CAMPAIGN PROMISES SCRUTINISED

The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Abia State, Kelechi Anosike, has urged journalists to closely examine the promises of political candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

Anosike made the call while speaking to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abia State Council, during the union’s monthly congress in Umuahia. He said the media had a responsibility to hold government accountable and explain how policies affect citizens.

He urged journalists to go beyond reporting campaign promises by asking candidates how their proposed programmes would be funded, implemented and measured.

According to him, the 2027 election should focus on ideas and practical plans rather than personalities or popularity on social media.

Anosike also called for regular interaction between government and the media, including monthly briefings and improved access to information from ministries and agencies.

He pledged that, if elected, his administration would improve facilities at the NUJ Press Centre, support the training and welfare of journalists and ensure that government assistance does not compromise press freedom.

The PDP candidate also outlined plans including “Operation Feed Abia”, aimed at increasing food production, and a programme to improve tertiary education, skills development and support for graduates.

He said journalists should remain independent and continue to question government claims while providing accurate information to the public.
