The Abia State Government has announced the postponement of two major events — the launch of the Abia State Integrated Wash Accelerated Programme (AIWAP) and the flag-off of the rehabilitation of the Aba regional water scheme — initially slated for today.

This decision, revealed in a late-night press statement by Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, was made out of respect for the public holiday declared by the Federal Government in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who will be laid to rest today.

Ekeoma explained that both events will now take place tomorrow, Wednesday, and expressed the government’s regret over any inconvenience the change might cause members of the public.

Meanwhile, Governor Alex Otti has joined other leaders across the country in mourning the passing of former President Buhari, describing the news of his death as “sad.”

The state government reiterated its commitment to pushing ahead with critical projects aimed at improving water access and sanitation across Abia, assuring residents that the brief delay would not affect the planned roll-out and execution.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
