ABIA ENFORCES OKADA BAN IN THREE COMMUNITIES, SETS ₦50,000 FINE FOR VIOLATORS
The Abia State Government has begun enforcement of a ban on commercial motorcycles, popularly known as okada, in three communities within the state.
Officials said the enforcement exercise is aimed at improving public safety, reducing traffic violations, and addressing rising concerns over criminal activities linked to motorcycle operations in some areas.
According to authorities, individuals who violate the restriction will be liable to a ₦50,000 fine as part of measures to ensure compliance with the directive.
The government noted that the decision follows consultations with community leaders and security agencies, who identified the need for stricter transport regulation in the affected areas.
Residents have been urged to comply with the directive and explore alternative means of transportation as enforcement intensifies.
Officials added that the policy is not statewide but targeted at specific communities where security and traffic challenges have been most pronounced.
Security agencies have been deployed to ensure strict enforcement while avoiding unnecessary confrontation with residents.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining order and improving safety across all parts of Abia State.
