The Deputy Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area, Gwong Gwya Song, has disclosed that 30 indigenes of Plateau State were killed, while over 500 others remain stranded following a terrorist attack on Woro community in Kwara State.

The attack, which occurred on February 3, 2026, reportedly left more than 160 people dead, with several others injured or abducted.

Speaking in Jos on Tuesday, the deputy chairman described the situation as deeply painful. He said 707 persons were displaced, with about 200 having returned home so far.

“For now, the number of persons displaced so far is 707. Some have returned home, but some are still stranded. We have about 200 who have returned. The chairman has sent at least N3m for them to secure transport back home,” he stated.

He added that the council is planning a special memorial day on Thursday to honour the 30 victims who lost their lives in the attack. Those who have returned are not in formal IDP camps but are staying with relatives and loved ones.

Song further revealed that four community members injured in the attack are receiving treatment in Kwara, while about 10 others remain in captivity.

A community member, Timothy Lazarus, called for urgent intervention by federal and state authorities to provide shelter, food, and medical support for displaced persons, as well as stronger security measures to combat banditry and terrorism in rural areas.

The victims were said to be mostly natives of Ganawuri in Riyom LGA who had travelled to Kwara State for farming and commercial activities before the attackers stormed the area, killing residents, burning homes and shops, and abducting dozens.

When contacted, the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency, Sunday Abdu, said he had not yet received any official report on the situation but would verify the details.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
