The Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced three men to prison for trafficking a total of 160 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa.

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu delivered the judgment on Friday in two separate cases filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

In the first case, a 25-year-old graduate, Faruk Mumuni, was convicted for trafficking 149 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa. He was arrested on August 13, 2025, in Mushin, Lagos State, and faced a two-count charge under Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Mumuni pleaded guilty after the charge was read, following submissions from NDLEA counsel, Buhari Abdulahi, who presented exhibits and urged the court to convict him.

His lawyer, E.U. Okenyi, appealed for leniency, describing him as a first-time offender who admitted guilt early and expressed remorse.

In his ruling, Justice Dipeolu sentenced Mumuni to two years in prison, effective from his arrest date, with an option of a N5 million fine.

In a separate case, two other defendants, Abubakar Sadiq, 25, and Isah Ibrahim, 27, were also convicted after pleading guilty to trafficking 11 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa.

Their counsel, Evans Ajoku, pleaded for mercy and requested fines instead of jail terms.

Justice Dipeolu sentenced both men to six months’ imprisonment each, with an option of N500,000 fine on the first count. Additionally, Sadiq received another six months or a N600,000 fine on the second count.

The offence took place on July 3, 2025, in Alabarago, Lagos State. According to the prosecution, their actions violated Sections 11(c) and 14(b) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
