The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 25 students of Bayero University Kano (BUK) for alleged involvement in cyber-related crimes.

The suspects were arrested during a sting operation carried out near BUK's New Site in Kano, following intelligence reports about their suspected cybercrime activities.

The EFCC announced the arrests on Wednesday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

“All the suspects are confirmed to be undergraduate students of Bayero University, Kano,” the agency stated.

During the operation, several items were seized, including mobile phones, laptops, internet routers, and a Honda Accord vehicle.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ismaíl Nura, Suuleyman Ayeh, Usman Abdulrazaq, Emmanuel Chigozie, Akabe Seth, Daniel Imoter, Abdulganiyu Jimoh, Jafar Abubakar, Usman Nuraddeen, Mohammad Adnan, Abubakar Abusufyan, Abdulmalik Ibrahim, Abubakar Sadiq, Daniel Masamu, Abdulrasheed Abdulsamad, Issac Dosunu, Nuraddeen Ogunbiyi, Onyeyemi Kaleem, Miracle Joseph, Danjuma Musa, Ibrahim Mubaraq, Yusuf Salihu, Lawal Ibrahim Edebo, Abdulmajeed Suleiman, and Dauda Abdulhamid.

According to the EFCC, the arrests followed weeks of surveillance that linked the students to various online fraud schemes, identity theft, and financial scams.

The commission added that the suspects would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
