Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly raping and killing an elderly woman, identified as Veronica Anthony, in Iboropa-Akoko, located in Akoko North-East Local Government Area.

The suspect, Anthony Alabi, was arrested after police tracked the victim’s missing phone.

The incident reportedly sparked tension in the community, with security personnel stepping in to prevent mob action as angry youths attempted to attack the suspect.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Jimoh Abayomi, the suspect is currently in custody and has confessed to the crime.

He stated that detectives acted on credible intelligence, which led to the recovery of the deceased’s phone and the suspect’s arrest. The case has since been transferred to the state police headquarters in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.
