2027: TINUBU INCOMPETENT, LACKS ENERGY TO GOVERN, SHOULD STEP DOWN, SAYS OBI
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as incompetent and lacking the energy required to govern Nigeria effectively, while calling on him to step down.
Obi’s remarks come amid growing political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures increasingly questioning the performance of the Tinubu administration and demanding changes in the country’s leadership.
The former Anambra State governor has repeatedly expressed concerns about Nigeria’s economic situation, particularly rising inflation, unemployment, poverty and the declining purchasing power of citizens.
He has argued that the government’s economic policies have placed additional pressure on households and businesses, leaving many Nigerians struggling to meet basic needs.
Obi has also maintained that leadership requires capacity, commitment, accountability and the ability to respond effectively to the challenges confronting the country.
His latest criticism adds to the growing debate over Tinubu’s performance since assuming office in May 2023, particularly following the removal of petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign exchange system.
The Federal Government has defended its reform programme, insisting that the measures are necessary to address longstanding economic distortions, improve revenue generation and establish a stronger foundation for sustainable growth.
However, opposition leaders argue that the hardship experienced by Nigerians demonstrates the need for a different approach to governance.
As political activities gather momentum ahead of 2027, Obi’s comments are likely to intensify discussions about leadership, economic management and the direction of the country.
The exchange reflects the widening political contest between the ruling All Progressives Congress and opposition figures seeking to challenge Tinubu’s administration at the next general elections.
