The Peoples Redemption Party has alleged that hundreds of millions of naira could be used to divide its members and disrupt efforts to build an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, PRP National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, accused some former members and serving party officials of involvement in the alleged scheme.

He claimed the aim was to create a faction within the party, weaken its grassroots support and damage its electoral prospects.

The party did not name the individuals allegedly involved or provide evidence supporting the claims in its statement. The allegations have not been independently verified.

Baba-Ahmed urged members to resist attempts by unauthorised individuals to recruit polling agents on the party’s behalf. He also called on supporters to reject and expose any efforts to use money to influence their political loyalty.

The chairman warned that serving PRP officials found to be involved would face disciplinary action.

Despite the concerns, he assured candidates and supporters that the party’s leadership remained committed to protecting their interests and pursuing its electoral goals.

He added that the PRP would continue participating in efforts to build an opposition coalition capable of challenging the ruling party in 2027.

The statement places party unity at the centre of the PRP’s preparations, as it seeks to strengthen its organisation while working with other opposition groups.
