2027: POLICE PROMISE ADEQUATE SECURITY IN PLATEAU
The Plateau State Police Command has promised adequate security ahead of the 2027 general elections, with plans to reinforce personnel, improve logistics and strengthen intelligence gathering.
Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan gave the assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting with political party leaders and candidates in Jos.
He said additional personnel and logistics had been approved to address potential threats and prevent election-related violence.
The meeting included representatives of the Department of State Services, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Nigerian Army and other stakeholders.
Faniyan said security agencies were identifying flashpoints and preparing responses to threats that could disrupt peaceful voting.
He listed political thuggery, vote-buying, hate speech, incitement and conflicts within and between parties among the concerns being monitored.
The commissioner urged candidates and supporters to campaign peacefully, stressing that elections should not divide communities or become a contest of violence.
He also pledged police neutrality, saying officers would protect participants across political affiliations.
The state DSS director, Paul Damian, reaffirmed his agency’s commitment to cooperation, while emphasising that responsible conduct by political parties and election officials would help reduce security risks.
The engagement aimed to strengthen cooperation for peaceful and credible elections.
