The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South, describing it as a political strategy to lure key figures like Peter Obi, Goodluck Jonathan, and Rotimi Amaechi.

Speaking on Channels Television on Tuesday, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the move showed that both the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were more focused on political manoeuvres than solving Nigeria’s real problems.

He argued that announcing zoning arrangements two years before the elections was insensitive to the daily struggles of Nigerians.

“Why are we so preoccupied and behaving in such a way that Nigerians begin to look at the political elite across the divides as if we don’t care about them?” Abdullahi asked.

The PDP recently confirmed that its 2027 presidential ticket will go to the South, while APC leaders have already endorsed President Bola Tinubu as their sole candidate, citing the tradition of power rotation between North and South.

The ADC maintained that such early power games only reinforce the perception that the political class is disconnected from the needs of ordinary citizens.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
