2027: PDP NO LONGER PARTY OF CHOICE IN OGUN — APC CHIEFTAIN

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost its appeal as the preferred political platform in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing growing public support for the ruling APC.

Chief Bimbo Lanre-Balogun, a former Commissioner and prominent APC leader, made the assertion on Friday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abeokuta. He attributed the shift to the perceived failures of the PDP during its time in power and the visible developmental strides recorded under the APC-led administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

“The PDP is no longer the party of choice for the good people of Ogun State. The electorate have seen the difference and are aligning with the APC because of its people-centred policies and good governance,” Lanre-Balogun stated.

 He pointed to infrastructure projects, education reforms, healthcare improvements, and agricultural initiatives as key factors swaying public opinion.

The APC chieftain urged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and avoid complacency, warning that internal divisions could undermine the party’s momentum. He expressed confidence that the APC would consolidate its dominance across the three senatorial districts in the forthcoming polls.

PDP leaders, however, dismissed the claim as premature political boasting. The state PDP Publicity Secretary described it as “wishful thinking,” insisting that the party remains strong and is actively repositioning itself to reclaim power.

 “Ogun people are tired of unfulfilled promises. The PDP is the real alternative and will prove this in 2027,” he countered.

Political analysts note that Ogun State has historically been a battleground, with shifting alliances and strong influence from notable politicians. The 2023 elections saw the APC retain power, but observers say economic challenges and intra-party rivalries could shape the 2027 contest.

Governor Abiodun’s administration has been commended in some quarters for relative stability and infrastructure delivery, even as opposition parties continue to criticise the pace of development and rising cost of living.

As political activities intensify towards 2027, stakeholders across party lines are expected to ramp up strategies to woo voters. The APC chieftain’s statement signals early confidence from the ruling party, setting the tone for what promises to be a keenly contested electoral season in Ogun State.
