2027: OK MOVEMENT FAULTS NDC CAMPAIGN COUNCIL LIST
The Obi-Kwankwaso Movement has criticised the Nigeria Democratic Congress over its newly announced National Campaign Council, arguing that the party has taken too long to organise for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the movement’s Director-General, John Ughulu, claimed that his organisation had built a stronger grassroots network than the party.
He said political ambition alone would not deliver victory without effective coordination, local mobilisation and a clear campaign strategy.
Ughulu also predicted that many members of the NDC council would eventually seek the movement’s assistance to reach voters.
His remarks followed Sunday’s announcement of the campaign council, chaired by the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, with presidential candidate Peter Obi serving as co-chairman.
NDC National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, was named vice-chairman, while vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso will serve as co-vice-chairman. Ibrahim Abdulkarim was appointed director-general.
Ughulu and the movement’s state, local government and ward coordinators were not included in the appointments.
The disagreement reflects a wider dispute over the movement’s independence and its role in supporting the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.
The OK Movement had established its own presidential campaign council, a decision Dickson criticised. He maintained that support groups should strengthen a political party’s campaign rather than create competing structures.
