The 2023 Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has declared his willingness to once again run alongside Peter Obi in the 2027 general elections, provided Nigeria’s electoral system improves.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Baba-Ahmed said his commitment to Nigeria remains strong and that he would continue to align with individuals and groups who share his vision for the country.

“If Nigeria is still around and there is an electoral system to follow, my love for Nigeria is undying. I will appropriately associate with groups and individuals I think are like-minded,” he stated.

When asked about teaming up again with Obi, Baba-Ahmed responded: “Absolutely… there are two individuals that I would succumb to. The first has not spoken, so I won’t say on his behalf. The second one is Peter Obi, and always Peter Obi until he decides not to.”

He, however, cautioned against always seeing him as just a running mate. “By the way, why do you think I have to be a deputy? Don’t keep looking at me like a deputy,” he added.

Baba-Ahmed’s remarks have stirred fresh discussions within political circles, as speculations about possible alliances and strategies ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
