2027: EX-CPC STATE CHAIRMEN MEET ATIKU, BACK ADC COALITION
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, former state chairmen of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) have declared their support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The chairmen met with Atiku on Wednesday in Abuja, where they pledged to work with him in the build-up to the elections.
The CPC, founded by the late President Muhammadu Buhari, merged with the ACN and ANPP in 2013 to form the All Progressives Congress (APC). But since Buhari’s passing, there has been growing speculation that some CPC loyalists are pulling away from the APC.
Interestingly, on the same day, another CPC bloc led by Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and former Nasarawa governor Tanko Al-Makura met with President Bola Tinubu at the Villa, promising to back his re-election campaign in 2027.
Speaking during his meeting with the ex-CPC state chairmen, Atiku praised their decision, saying their support was a continuation of the struggle that began with Buhari’s political movement.
“This is a continuation of your journey and struggles, and I believe with your support, we will translate this journey into success,” Atiku said.
“We will also form a government that will have the kind of impact President Buhari would have loved to see.”
With this development, it is clear that the CPC family is now split between loyalty to Tinubu’s APC and Atiku’s ADC coalition, setting the stage for an intense political battle as 2027 approaches.
