The Obidient Movement has appealed to former President Goodluck Jonathan to step aside and support Labour Party’s Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election.

This comes after Obi and Jonathan held a closed-door meeting on Thursday, which Obi described as a “brotherly discussion” focused on the state of the nation. Sharing photos from the meeting on his X handle, Obi hailed Jonathan as “a very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader.”

While Jonathan has not publicly declared his intentions for 2027, speculations continue to mount over a possible comeback bid.

Speaking on behalf of the Obidient Movement, National Coordinator Dr. Yunusa Tanko stressed that although both Jonathan and Obi are respected leaders, Obi remains the candidate of choice for millions of Nigerians seeking genuine change.

“They have been friends for a long time. The meeting was for them to fraternise and discuss how to rescue Nigeria.

But for us in the Obidient Movement, it would be great if Jonathan remains the respected statesman he is known for. He has done his best as President, and this is the time for him to support his brother,” Tanko said.

The group urged Jonathan to play a guiding role as an elder statesman while allowing Obi to take the mantle in the push for Nigeria’s transformation.
