National Leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has declared that the party is open to discussions and possible alliances with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections—but stressed that NNPP is not desperate.

Speaking at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, the former Kano State Governor dismissed speculations of ongoing merger talks, explaining that no agreement has been reached with any group.

Kwankwaso emphasized that any decision on partnerships will be made collectively, with full involvement of both the party leadership and its members.

“We are politicians. We are ready to talk to anybody who wants us to work together for 2027. But we are not in a hurry, and we are not desperate. NNPP is not my party, not the chairman’s party—it belongs to Nigerians,” he said.

At the meeting, NNPP also dissolved executives in some states and appointed interim leaders ahead of its upcoming convention, where substantive officers will be elected.

Kwankwaso maintained that while the party welcomes new entrants, it will not stop members who wish to leave, adding that NNPP’s ultimate goal is to provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative in 2027.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
