2027 Elections: Gbenga Hashim Welcomes Youth Endorsement, Hints At Presidential Run

As the race to 2027 slowly takes shape, former presidential candidate Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has stirred political waters with a strong hint at a comeback — this time backed by a powerful coalition of young Nigerians from the North Central zone.

In a statement posted to his social media accounts on Monday, Hashim welcomed the endorsement, describing it as both humbling and a timely national call to duty. While not officially declaring his candidacy just yet, he strongly suggested that a decision would be made before the end of the year.

“I am grateful to the young people of the North Central zone who have endorsed me to contest for the presidency in 2027 by the grace of God,” he said.
“I am delighted that they recognize the urgent need for a president who would not simply be filling a regional quota, but someone who will secure all Nigerians, grow our economy, and make Nigeria livable for all who call it home.”

Hashim, a former student leader and democracy activist turned entrepreneur, emphasized that Nigeria’s complex challenges — from security to economic recovery — require competent and principled leadership, not politics as usual.

He described the endorsement as a reflection of growing frustration with the status quo, and a collective desire for leadership that transcends tribalism and tokenism.

“Nigeria needs a strategic thinker with the resolve to unite the country and restore its lost glory,” Hashim added. “By God’s grace, we shall be categorical on this request amongst many others for me to step forward and take up this assignment before the end of this year.”

A Signal to the Political Establishment?

Analysts are already reading the youth endorsement as a strategic shift ahead of 2027, pointing to a rising trend where young Nigerians rally around candidates with a track record of service, integrity, and a clear vision for national development.

Hashim's 2019 presidential run introduced him to a wider national audience, and even though he didn’t clinch the seat, his reform-minded approach and reputation for inclusivity earned him long-term relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The youth coalition that endorsed him praised his developmental agenda, history of service, and refusal to play divisive politics. They’ve since called on other regions to support a “truly Nigerian candidate” — one who understands Nigeria’s complexities and is equipped to deal with them head-on.

A Name to Watch

As conversations around 2027 begin to dominate political discourse, Dr. Gbenga Hashim’s name is once again rising — and this time, with real momentum. Should he choose to officially throw his hat in the ring, it could mark the beginning of a new chapter in Nigerian politics, one led by vision, unity, and competence.
