2027: DON’T SELL YOUR VOTE, DON’T SELL YOUR FUTURE – PETER OBI TELLS YOUTHS
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerian youths to play an active role in shaping the country’s future by refusing to sell their votes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, warned that selling votes amounts to selling away one’s future, including healthcare, education, and opportunities for good governance.
“Do not sell your vote, do not sell your future,” Obi emphasized, stressing that Nigeria’s progress depends largely on the choices young people make at the ballot box.
He shared the message while addressing thousands of young people at the National Youth Rally to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON), hosted at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka.
Obi reminded youths that the burden of nation-building rests on their shoulders and urged them to vote for leaders with competence, capacity, compassion, and character.
“Ours is a richly blessed nation, yet we remain trapped in hunger, insecurity, and poor governance. Becoming President is not the disaster—the true disaster is when leaders lack the courage and integrity to make Nigeria work,” he said.
He further encouraged first-time voters, especially those turning 18, to register and collect their voter cards, describing it as the most powerful tool against bad leadership.
“Nigerian youths are no longer content with complaints—they are ready for action. Together, in honesty and determination, we will build the New Nigeria,” Obi added.
The former governor of Anambra State thanked Rev. Fr. Paschal Udo, other priests present, the CYON leadership, and the vibrant youths for their commitment to building a better nation.
