Former Senate President and Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has raised alarm that the current administration could use the courts to stall the party’s growing momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.

Mark voiced his concerns in Abuja during a meeting with the National Legal Support Group of the ADC, led by Abdullahi Abdurrahman. The visit underscored the party’s push to build a robust legal team as it prepares for future political battles.

Speaking at the meeting, Abdurrahman revealed that over 310 lawyers have already volunteered to defend the party in all legal matters nationwide. He noted that this legal army is spread across all 36 states and the FCT, ready to handle any challenges that may come the party’s way.

“We are prepared to handle any case that may arise against ADC anywhere in the country,” Abdurrahman assured.

He also highlighted that the ADC’s legal squad includes heavyweight figures like the party’s Legal Adviser, Peter Oyewole; former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN; and former Edo State Governor and respected legal scholar, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor.

Abdurrahman praised David Mark’s integrity and urged him to use his vast political experience to steer the ADC to national prominence.

Responding, Oyewole confirmed that all the legal frameworks around the recent coalition that shaped the new-look ADC were properly executed.

“There is no cause for alarm,” he stated confidently.

However, David Mark remained cautious, warning that the ruling administration could try to exploit the courts to slow down the ADC’s rise.

“ADC is the party to beat in 2027. The current administration may attempt to use the courts to frustrate our momentum,” he cautioned.

He called on Nigerians to see the ADC as a credible, patriotic alternative that could move the country forward. Mark also applauded the legal team for their commitment and urged them to stay proactive as the party gears up for the next general elections.

With its swelling grassroots support and a powerful legal backbone, the ADC says it’s fully prepared to defend its mission and compete vigorously in the 2027 polls.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
