Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his support for Accord’s legislative candidates, saying his alliance with President Bola Tinubu’s supporters applies only to the presidential election.

Adeleke clarified the arrangement as political leaders from Accord, the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party joined efforts to support Tinubu’s re-election.

He said the coalition’s members remained free to campaign for their respective parties’ candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and state House of Assembly.

The governor also pledged to lead campaigns for Accord candidates seeking those seats.

His clarification addresses questions about how parties cooperating at the presidential level would handle contests against one another in other elections.

According to Adeleke, their shared support for Tinubu does not extend to legislative races or require members to abandon their party candidates.

Speaking at the inauguration of the presidential campaign council in Osun, he described the alliance as a “rainbow coalition” bringing together different political structures.

The arrangement means participating parties will work towards a common presidential candidate while continuing to compete for legislative representation.

Adeleke also called for the resolution of Osun’s local government crisis, identifying it as important to grassroots welfare and political mobilisation ahead of the polls.
