2026 WORLD CUP: BURNA BOY, SHAKIRA TO HEADLINE MEXICO CITY OPENING CEREMONY
Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy and Colombian singer Shakira are set to headline the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City, FIFA has confirmed. The duo will perform “Dai Dai,” the tournament’s official song, for the first time during the ceremony on June 11.
The opening event, scheduled to begin 90 minutes before the tournament’s first match, will take place at Mexico City Stadium and feature a lineup of international artists celebrating football, music, and culture.
Other performers announced for the ceremony include J Balvin, Tyla, Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, and Maná.
FIFA said the performance of “Dai Dai” will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative aimed at raising funds to expand access to education and football opportunities for children worldwide.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada, will be the first edition of the tournament to feature 48 teams. Mexico will stage the opening match, with additional opening ceremonies planned in Canada and the United States.
The announcement marks another major international milestone for Burna Boy, who joins a select group of African artists to perform on football’s biggest stage.
