Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has reaffirmed the team’s determination to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite their current position in the qualifying group.

Nigeria currently trail joint leaders Benin Republic and South Africa by three points in Group C, leaving their qualification hopes hanging in the balance.

The three-time African champions will take on Lesotho and Benin Republic in their final two qualifying matches — games they must win while also hoping their rivals drop points.

Speaking to the Super Eagles media team, Troost-Ekong expressed strong optimism and belief in the squad’s ability to deliver when it matters most.

“We’re optimistic and we’re always going to fight till the end,” he said.
“We believe and we’re never going to stop believing. Two important games — Friday, the first one, and after that we get back to Nigeria. Our focus now is on Lesotho.”

Troost-Ekong, a veteran leader in the national team, emphasized unity and focus as Nigeria aim to return to the World Cup stage after missing out on the 2022 edition in Qatar.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
