Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Idah Peterside has shared his predictions ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff matches, tipping Nigeria and Cameroon to progress from their respective ties.

Speaking on Soccer Beat, Peterside expressed confidence that Nigeria would defeat Gabon, while Cameroon would overcome DR Congo to set up a heavyweight showdown between both West African powerhouses.

“Congo will play Cameroon, and Cameroon is a superpower in Africa,” Peterside said.

“So we hope Cameroon will beat DRC Congo, and it would be Nigeria vs Cameroon, and in that light, you would see that Africa is producing a giant.

Africa is bringing strong teams because South Africa has qualified, there is Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, and Ivory Coast — that is what we are saying, the big boys must come to the big boys’ party.”

The World Cup playoff matches are scheduled for November 13, with the winners set to clash in the final playoff round on November 16 to determine Africa’s next representatives at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
