2026 WCQ: OSIMHEN TO MISS SUPER EAGLES CLASH WITH SOUTH AFRICA DUE TO INJURY
Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday eight fixture against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
The Galatasaray striker was forced off in the first half of the Super Eagles’ 1-0 victory over Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday. The 26-year-old was replaced by Cyriel Dessers.
Head coach Eric Chelle confirmed after the game that Osimhen would be assessed before the team’s trip to South Africa.
According to the Super Eagles’ media officer, Promise Efoghe, Osimhen experienced discomfort in his chin on Sunday morning and will not join the squad traveling for the match.
He is now set to return to his club in Turkey for further treatment.
Nigeria will face South Africa at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.
