2026 HAJJ: SAUDI WARNS NIGERIANS — JAIL AND ₦8.2M FINE FOR PILGRIMS WITHOUT VALID VISAS
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has issued a strong warning to intending Nigerian pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj, stressing that anyone caught performing the pilgrimage without a valid visa will face severe punishment. Offenders risk imprisonment and a fine of ₦8.2 million.
The caution came during a virtual meeting between the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), where preparations and key timelines for next year’s pilgrimage were reviewed.
According to Ustaz Abdallah Ash Shihry, acting director-general and special assistant to the Saudi deputy minister of Hajj and Umrah, strict adherence to all deadlines is mandatory.
Important 2026 Hajj Deadlines:
November 2025 – Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
January 4, 2026 – Final date for camp booking payments and confirmation of service contracts
February 1, 2026 – Deadline for uploading transport and accommodation contracts on the Nusuk Masar Portal
May 1, 2026 (1st Shawwal) – Final day for visa issuance
In response, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, assured the Saudi authorities of Nigeria’s readiness to comply with all requirements. He added that the commission will work closely with stakeholders to guarantee a smooth, well-organized, and successful Hajj for Nigerian pilgrims.
With the strict measures in place, intending pilgrims are urged to begin preparations early, follow official guidelines, and avoid shortcuts that could put their spiritual journey — and freedom — at risk.
