20-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED AFTER FATHER DIES IN ALLEGED MACHETE ATTACK IN ANAMBRA

A 20-year-old man, identified as Pascal Ogbogu, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over the alleged killing of his 56-year-old father in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of Tuesday, August 25, 2026, when Ogbogu allegedly attacked his father with a machete before fleeing the scene. The motive behind the alleged attack has not yet been established as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following a distress report, operatives from the Eziowelle Police Division mobilised to the area with assistance from the victim’s family members and members of the Abatete Vigilante.

The responders reportedly found the deceased lying in a pool of blood, with a deep machete wound to his throat. His remains were subsequently evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy as the police commenced efforts to locate the fleeing suspect.

Ogbogu was eventually apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, following a coordinated search involving police officers, vigilante personnel, family members and other community residents. Police said timely information supplied by members of the community also helped security operatives track and locate the suspect.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the community members and security personnel who contributed to the suspect’s arrest. He stressed that cooperation between residents and law enforcement agencies remained essential to preventing crime and protecting lives and property.

The Commissioner also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and a comprehensive review.

Police authorities said the investigation would focus on establishing the full circumstances surrounding the alleged killing and determining the facts of the case. The command also assured the public that the suspect would be subjected to due process after the investigation is concluded.
