1st Choice Properties has unveiled a mobile application aimed at promoting secure and transparent real estate transactions, tackling the growing menace of fraud in the housing and property sector.

At the launch event in Lagos, the company’s Managing Director, Mr. Taiwo Oladapo, and General Manager, Mr. Gbenga Agbana, explained that the app allows Nigerians to rent, buy, and lease properties safely, ensuring transactions are conducted with verified landlords and tenants.

Oladapo noted that the platform protects both parties by conducting thorough verifications and clearly stipulating the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants. “We are passionate about ensuring that every Nigerian can secure a home without fear of sudden eviction or fraudulent practices,” he said.

The MD emphasized that Nigeria loses over N100 billion annually to fake and fraudulent real estate transactions. “The sector faces serious threats from quacks and unscrupulous individuals. With this app, we aim to redeem the image of real estate practice in Nigeria. We have established a strong legal framework and are collaborating with state and federal governments to curb corruption,” Oladapo added.

He also urged the government to implement stricter regulations for real estate agents, including compulsory certification and penalties for unregistered practitioners.

Agbana highlighted that the app will help investors identify safe opportunities while protecting them from properties with disputed ownership or legal complications. “Every year, Nigerians in the diaspora and local investors lose billions of naira to corruption in the housing and property sector. The 1st Choice app aims to put an end to this,” he said.

Both executives pointed out Nigeria’s severe housing deficit, with fewer than 10 percent of citizens owning homes. Weak sector regulation has made investors, particularly in the diaspora, vulnerable to exploitation by land grabbers and property speculators.

“Our goal is to restore confidence in the real estate sector and encourage genuine investment. With this app, we are taking a decisive step toward transparency, security, and accountability in property transactions,” Agbana concluded.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
