A total of 1,629 corps members posted to Gombe State for the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have officially begun their orientation programme at the temporary camp situated at Government Science Technical College, Amada, in Akko Local Government Area.

The swearing-in ceremony was conducted under the supervision of the Chief Judge of Gombe State, represented by Justice Zainab Abdulkadir Rasheed of the State High Court.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, warmly welcomed the corps members and encouraged them to fully integrate into their host communities. He emphasized the values of discipline, patriotism, and selfless service as essential components of the NYSC experience.

Governor Yahaya, through his deputy, acknowledged the vital role corps members play in supporting the state's workforce, noting that Gombe has come to rely significantly on their contributions across various sectors. He assured the new batch of the government’s unwavering commitment to their welfare and to enhancing camp facilities.

He urged the 2025 corps members to excel beyond their predecessors and to learn the local languages to foster cultural understanding and communication within their communities.

“Your religion, beliefs, and language are not universal laws of nature,” he added, urging them to be open-minded and respectful of cultural diversity.

In her address, NYSC Gombe State Coordinator, Chinwe Nnenna Nwachuku, expressed appreciation to God and the state government for their continued support. However, she voiced concern over the recent destruction caused by a windstorm, which damaged key facilities including the multipurpose pavilion and some hostels.

“With tears in my eyes, I report the destruction of our multipurpose pavilion and some hostels,” she said, appealing for urgent intervention to restore camp infrastructure and ensure corps members' safety and comfort.

She reminded the new corps members of the four main phases of the service year—Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service (CDS), and Passing Out Ceremony—and encouraged them to make the most of the experience for both personal development and national impact.

The event was attended by several top government officials, including commissioners, the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Ahmed Kasimu Abdullah, permanent secretaries, heads of government agencies, security operatives, and traditional rulers, according to a statement by Jack A. Tasha, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Deputy Governor.
