14 Arrested, Counterfeit Currencies Recovered In Jigawa Security Raid
In a major security operation, the Jigawa State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, arrested 14 suspects during a raid on a criminal hideout in Digawa village, located in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out on June 12, 2025—Democracy Day—was based on credible intelligence linking the suspects to fraudulent activities and other criminal acts. According to a statement issued on Thursday in Dutse by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, various incriminating items were also recovered.
This latest development comes shortly after a June 11 incident in which fraudsters from the same village allegedly attacked Dumus village, leaving 60-year-old Isma’il Ibrahim dead and injuring eight others. Victims of that attack were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu for autopsy and treatment.
The police spokesperson listed the items seized during the raid to include:
- Nine fabricated pistols
- 27 Dane guns
- 37 pieces of gun parts
- Four motorcycles
- 12 counterfeit U.S. dollar bills
- 188 suspected fake Central African banknotes
- Weapons such as bows and arrows
- Tools including metal files, saws, vices, and a blower
- Animal skins and various charms believed to be used for criminal purposes
All 14 male suspects are currently in police custody and are undergoing thorough investigation. They will be charged to court upon conclusion of the probe.
SP Adam emphasized the police’s commitment to public safety and reaffirmed their dedication to eliminating criminal elements from communities. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help law enforcement efforts.
“The police command remains resolute in ensuring justice is served and communities are protected,” he added.
