13-YEAR RELATIONSHIP ENDS OVER MARITAL NEGLECT AND ALLEGED DRUNKENNESS
A Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has dissolved the 13-year-old relationship between Adisa and his partner, Falilat, citing lack of love, irresponsibility, excessive drinking, and late-night outings.
Adisa told the court that Falilat’s behavior changed drastically after she joined the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), alleging that she became uncontrollable and abandoned her marital responsibilities.
According to him, Falilat rarely stayed at home, and when she did, she often denied him intimacy. He revealed that their last sexual encounter was nearly two years ago.
Adisa further lamented that their children were left unkempt and hungry because Falilat neglected to cook or care for them. He said her actions had caused him humiliation in their community and made life unbearable.
He prayed the court to end the union, insisting he could no longer endure her excesses.
Despite being served summons, Falilat refused to appear in court to defend herself.
In delivering judgment, the court’s president, Mrs. O.E. Owoseni, noted that no formal customary marriage had taken place since no bride price was paid. She ruled that the plaintiff’s evidence stood unchallenged as the defendant failed to respond.
The court consequently ordered the dissolution of their union.
