120 STUDENTS BAG FIRST CLASS AS UNIPORT GRADUATES 8,156
The University of Port Harcourt has announced that 120 students will graduate with first-class degrees during its 36th convocation ceremony scheduled to hold on Friday.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing in Port Harcourt ahead of the institution’s combined convocation ceremony.
George Will said a total of 8,156 students would graduate during the ceremony, including recipients of first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees, and doctoral degrees.
According to him, the graduating students include 510 postgraduate diploma recipients, 1,386 master’s degree holders, and 438 Doctor of Philosophy graduates.
He described the convocation ceremony as one of the university’s most important academic traditions and a celebration of academic excellence and institutional achievements.
The Vice Chancellor also revealed that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, would deliver the convocation lecture.
George will state that activities for the convocation had already commenced with a Jumat prayer and thanksgiving service, while other events lined up include a tree planting ceremony, faculty class activities, exhibitions, alumni programmes, and a dinner for first class graduates.
He added that entrepreneur and technology investor Iyinoluwa Aboyeji would participate in a fireside chat during the convocation activities.
The VC reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and societal development, stressing that the university would continue to promote knowledge and positive transformation.
George will also appreciate the support of the Federal Government, Rivers State Government, alumni, and stakeholders for contributing to the growth and success of the university over the years.
