Security operatives have successfully rescued 12 passengers who were abducted in Ondo State.

The victims were freed on Friday during a joint operation by the military and police. They were among a group of travellers kidnapped while journeying through the state.

According to security sources, the rescue was carried out after credible intelligence was received. The freed passengers are currently receiving medical attention.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the rescue and stated that efforts are still ongoing to arrest the kidnappers and free any other victims who may still be in captivity.

This latest rescue brings relief to the families of the abducted passengers who had been anxious since the incident occurred. The state government has appealed for calm even as security agencies intensify efforts to tackle kidnapping in the state.

Kidnapping along major highways has remained a serious security concern in parts of Ondo State. Residents and travellers have repeatedly called on the government to do more to secure the roads.

The police have urged members of the public to continue providing timely and useful information that can help in the fight against kidnapping and other crimes in the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
