The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has dismissed 10 officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and sanctioned 21 others for various acts of misconduct.

According to a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, R. Akinsola Akinlabi, the disciplinary actions followed the review and approval of recommendations from the CDCFIB’s Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee, which met on July 11, 2025.

Akinlabi explained that the sanctions reflect the Service’s commitment to discipline, integrity, and accountability within its ranks.

“Eight officers were dismissed for serious misconduct and violation of Service Regulations, while five others were compulsorily retired for offences bordering on misconduct.

“Additionally, eight officers were demoted by one rank, and five were issued written warning letters,” the statement read.

The board also reviewed appeals from dismissed officers, reinstating one officer after a successful appeal and exonerating two others of all charges, while upholding the dismissal of two whose appeals lacked merit.

In a related development, two junior personnel were dismissed for criminal conspiracy involving theft, illegal possession of firearms, and kidnapping, following internal disciplinary proceedings concluded on April 14 and September 4, 2025, respectively.

Akinlabi noted that the disciplinary process was supervised by the Minister of Interior and CDCFIB Chairman, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap.

He assured that the Service remains committed to upholding professional and ethical standards at all levels, emphasizing that all disciplinary measures were carried out “without fear or favour.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
